Presidential Nicknames

Hello,

The library just received a copy of the H.W. Wilson published book Facts About the Presidents, 8th edition, 2009. This is a reference book that has a huge amount of information about the Presidents. The 2009 edition, the 8th, includes information even about President Obama.

One interesting section of the book deals with nicknames. Some of these Presidential nicknames I had heard of before, such as 'Ike' for President Dwight Eisenhower, while others, such as 'Shrub' for President George W. Bush, were new to me. Some Presidents had only one or a handful of nicknames listed, while others had quite a few. Here are some samples:

Andrew Johnson-Tennessee Tailor

Chester Arthur-Dude President

Franklin Pierce-Young Hicko of the Granite Hills

Millard Fillmore-Wool-Carder President

James Monroe-Last of the Cocked Hats

Franklin Roosevelt-Sphinx
