Watch it grow!

Numbers ticking ever upward....this site has small print that is hard for me to read but the concept is fascinating! Watch us grow.

You can compare countries using Encyclopedua Britannica's Compare Countries page (left side toward the middle has the link).

What is that in the sky?

Tonight you may think the moon has gained weight! It hasn't - you can read all about the visual trick being played on your eyes right here.

And then you can check out the Science resources in GALILEO for more information.

Your Georgia librarian can give you the password to access the GALILEO resources at home.

On the Road

Can you tell I'm not at school? Yes, I am still away from my home base. Last weekend, the American Library Association, this weekend (still in DC) the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR is the largest womens civic group in the United States.

It isn't your grandmothers DAR anymore.

The membership consists of women from a variety of ethnic, religious and social classes - all bound together by their love of country and their willingness to work for the good of others!

Yes, to join, a woman needs to be able to document her lineal relationship to a person (either man or woman) who supported the American Revolution.

Look in GALILEO under Arts and Humanities, History- 32 resources are available to help you link to your Revolutionary era ancestor. Ask your Georgia librarian for help using Ancestry.com (available in every Georgia public library and Technical College Library).

Something fun to do

Do you scrapbook? I went through my Mom's scrapbooks and took a quick trip back in time to her youth. It was a fascinating journey. It takes time to create a paper scrapbook. What could you do online? Read the Scrapblog description for an enthusiastic recommendation!

Thank you Lady Bird Johnson

There was a brief news article last week about Lady Bird Johnson, at age 94, being admitted to the hospital. You can read the articles in Lexis Nexis Academic. (Guided News Search, General News, Major papers, Lady Bird Johnson, previous week)

When I drive along the highways and see the masses of wild flowers, I say a little thank you for her efforts at Highway Beautification.

Twittering

I'm trying out Twitter while at ALA. I added a badge to MySpace. You can read my adventures from there.

Will I continue to use it after ALA? I doubt it- not unless I get lots of real friends who use Twitter.

I can see the benefit if you have people you really know as Twitter friends. It's a quick way to get in touch and keep in touch.

The drawback for use at conferences is the roaming charge for some cell phone services.

One can't know what will work till you try it!
