Humming a tune
Do you ever have a song winding through your memory and you can't think of the rest of the lyrics?
On GALILEO there is a database of internet sites- SKS WebSelect - when I typed in the search term lyrics it took me to several sites for popular music- including the Library of Congress American Memory page.
Thousands of sheets of music are available at these sites! Happy humming.

How's the weather?
Everyday conversation usually starts with a reference to the weather.
Have you ever wondered what the weather was like a hundred years ago?
You can read about weather in Georgia through the Georgia Historic Newspaper project- years 1750-1925. A search using the term "weather" brought up 360 matches.
"The Georgia Historic Newspaper Database is an outgrowth of the Georgia Newspaper Project managed by the University of Georgia Libraries. Since the early 1950s the UGA Libraries have made a systematic effort to identify and obtain copies of every newspaper ever published in Georgia and to preserve these valuable historical resources on microfilm. To date over 15 million pages of newsprint have been microfilmed, including at least one newspaper from every county in Georgia that published a newspaper. The Georgia Newspaper Project is part of the U.S. Newspaper Project and has received support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. "
The database is available through GALILEO. You can get the password from the librarian.
- "Hot enough for ya?"
- "Good weather for ducks."

Kiddie Lit online
The International Children's Digital Library is a project of the University of Maryland.
It was started in November of 2002! You can read children's books on-line for free.
"The ICDL is a public library for the world, and the collection reflects diverse cultures, perspectives, and historical periods. It should be remembered that this collection is designed for children ages 3-13 and that some materials may not be appropriate for sensitive readers. For more information, please see our complete curatorial policy. "
You can access the ICDL through GALILEO (and you get the password for home use from the librarian). We added the URL to GALILEO especially for NMTC Early Childhood Education students.
You can access ICDL at http://www.icdlbooks.org/
