Book Swap

During the last week of each quarter we have a paperback book swap.
You bring in your gently used paperback and trade it for another persons gently used paperback!

We don't buy "pleasure reading" materials. This is a way for our patrons to refresh their personal library of fiction!

The paperback swap begins June 6 and continues till June 10 in Room 103 (the library).

Searching World Cat

(SEE the Previous BLOG...talk about timely info)

The Open WorldCat Web site now includes information about tools that can help you more conveniently search for library materials from your PC desktop.

The three tools featured on this page are:
......Yahoo! Toolbar. This special edition on the Yahoo! Toolbar provides always-there access to Open WorldCat records via Yahoo! Search, plus the full complement of Yahoo! services.
......Google Toolbar with Autolink feature. The newest version of Google Toolbar enables always-there access to Open WorldCat records through its Autolink feature. Autolink detects the presence of specific kinds of information on the current Web page and—by pressing the Autolink button on the Toolbar—links to related or lookup information for that item.
.......Firefox search extensions. Add WorldCat searching to the Search Bar of the popular open-source Web browser Firefox. From an ever-present browser pane, you can enter your search terms and select the search engine to be queried.

Link to more information and download links for the Yahoo! Toolbar, Google Toolbar with Autolink and Firefox search extensions from http://www.oclc.org/worldcat/open/searchtools/default.htm.

Who has that book?

Have you ever wondered what library owned a book that you wanted to read? In GALILEO, there is a database called World Cat (World Catalog by First Search) that lists most of the books owned by most of the libraries in the US!

If you find a book you'd like to read and NMTC doesn't own it- we can try to borrow it from another library through InterLibrary Loan (no one loans brand new fiction titles- they are letting their local patrons borrow them first).

Get the password to use GALILEO at home from the librarian!

Ask-a-Librarian

There is a link in GALILEO to send an e-mail to the librarian. The link is in the upper right hand corner- pretty small print - but you can click on it and send an e-mail requesting help. The time lag is several hours- not instantaneous like Instant Messaging.

Password will change

Change is inevitable. Only death and taxes are certain. Who said that? Check Bartlett's Quotations in the reference section.

Our GALILEO password will change on June 27. The library will be e-mailing the new password to the faculty. Instructors will e-mail the new password to their online classes. We'll be handing out the new password the end of June.

So who said that? - Benjamin Franklin in a letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy, 13 Nov 1789. (Pg 321:3 Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, 17th edition- PN 6081 .B27 2002)

Library closed?

So the library is closed for the long weekend but you want something to read?

Don't forget to check out netLibrary through the NMTC Library catalog. We have over 34,000 titles in our netLibrary collection. These titles are available to you 24/7!

You need to register for a "free account" on campus.
Drop by the library on Tuesday, May 31, we'd be glad to show you how to create your free account in netLibrary.

Then the next time you have a hankering to read something, you'll be able to check out the netLibrary collection!
