Decoration Day

Do you have family old enough to remember when Memorial Day was referred to as Decoration Day?

Read an 1892 description of Decoration Day in our netLibrary collection through GALILEO.
"Decoration Day" by Sarah Orne Jewett from Harper's New Monthly Magazine, June 1892, pg 84-90.

This title is not in our card catalog but can be accessed through GALILEO.

More to read!

We downloaded the records for another 1000 electronic books into the card catalog for North Metro. You can also access the entire collection of NMTC e-books (38,000+) through GALILEO.

With the picnicing and cookout season about to begin, you might be looking for some new recipes to WOW your friends. Here's one title available through netLibrary:

The Book Club Cookbook : Recipes and Food From Your Book Club's Favorite Books and Authors (eBook)
by Gelman, Judy.; Krupp, Vicki Levy
Publication: New York Penguin, 2004.

There is a chapter on the DaVinci Code - one recipe they use to illustrate the DaVinci Code is Rosemary Spaghetti. Each chapter talks about a specific book, the recipes selected and how the recipes tie to the story.

Indians of the Southeast

Some stories portray the Native American population as ignorant savages. This database sets that story to rest. Read how the Cherokee created a written language and created a government similar to the United States in Southeastern Native American Documents, 1730-1842.

"This database contains approximately 2,000 documents and images relating to the Native American population of the Southeastern United States from the collections of the University of Georgia Libraries, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville Library, the Frank H. McClung Museum, the Tennessee State Library and Archives, the Tennessee State Museum and the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. The documents are comprised of letters, legal proceedings, military orders, financial papers, and archaeological images relating to Native Americans in the Southeast.
The project was funded by a grant from the
Institute for Museum and Library Services (use the browser's BACK button to return to GALILEO). The first 18 months of the Cherokee Phoenix, the first newspaper published in a Native American language, is also available through the Georgia Historic Newspapers database. "
