• I looked in GALILEO - couldn't find anything by date in either Annals of American History or Encyclopedia Britannica.
• I looked in The American Book of Days, 3rd edition by Jane M. Hatch (Ref GT 4803.D6 1978) and found the answer

The 19th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified.

The amendment reads:
"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

Now you know what happened on the 26th of August in 1920!
