The International Children's Digital Library is a project of the University of Maryland.
It was started in November of 2002! You can read children's books on-line for free.
"The ICDL is a public library for the world, and the collection reflects diverse cultures, perspectives, and historical periods. It should be remembered that this collection is designed for children ages 3-13 and that some materials may not be appropriate for sensitive readers. For more information, please see our complete curatorial policy. "
You can access the ICDL through GALILEO (and you get the password for home use from the librarian). We added the URL to GALILEO especially for NMTC Early Childhood Education students.
You can access ICDL at http://www.icdlbooks.org/
